OxCERPC’s Aims

To support the department of palliative care, Oxford University Hospitals Foundation Trust, to become ‘research active’, to help nurture a culture of inquiry and scholarship, and support opportunities for collaboration available within and beyond Oxford.

OxCERPC’s Objectives

1. To ensure research readiness across the whole palliative care department, enabling it to be a research-orientated organisation, implementing research into practice.
2. To develop capacity through supporting individuals with their specific research activity, project and programme.
3. To stimulate and nurture growth in research activity across all disciplines and at all levels of research experience.

We have strong links with the University of Oxford, both the Experimental Medicine Division of the Nuffield Department of Medicine and Harris Manchester College, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Oxford Brookes University, Palliative Care Research Society and other academic national and international centres.

We aspire to establish the Oxford Palliative Care Academic Unit as a clinically relevant and impactful hub for research in palliative care. Sitting within the Experimental Medicine Division of the Nuffield Department of Medicine, University of Oxford, it has its clinical base within the Palliative Medicine department of Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH).

Our recently refreshed Oxford Palliative Care Research Strategy (May 2026) focuses on five main themes:

• Community based palliative care
• Symptom focused research
• Health service delivery in all settings
• Education, training and workforce health technology).

Research activity in the department is supported by regular informal and inclusive research get togethers.
