Heart Failure and Palliative Care

Heart Failure is on the increase, affecting over 900,000 people in the UK (RCN, 2022). It is pertinent to discuss the issues affecting our patient population, such as: when is the right time to discuss the use of devices? How should we involve the patient in making decisions? When, and how, do we rationalise medications? Join us to hear experts discuss these issues and more in what promises to be a stimulating and informative session

Emma Stoppani, Community Heart Failure Specialist Nurse and Independent Prescriber, Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust

I am a heart failure specialist nurse with a background spanning 13 years in the community setting. My journey began in Critical Care Units (CCU and ICU), working for 11 years in Oxford and Sydney where I honed my skills in managing acute conditions. However, my true passion lies in community heart failure nursing with a special interest in end-of-life (EOL) care, a field I have been drawn to throughout my career.

I am dedicated to empowering individuals with heart failure to live their remaining time on their terms, overcoming the challenges of navigating this unpredictable condition. I am actively working to enhance our services and facilitate this empowerment for patients.

Helen Foley, Highly Specialised Cardiac Physiologist, Wiltshire Cardiac Centre
