Enhanced Communication Skills Training

We are excited to offer a new blended learning course for senior (band 6 and above) health and social care professionals who wish to further develop their communication skills in addressing and supporting patient needs

The course is composed of two sections

  • Pre-course learning of approx 4 hours to be undertaken in the weeks preceding the dates of the online experiential learning. This must be completed as preparation work. The time includes a scheduled 1:1 meeting of 20-30 minutes with one of the course facilitators to discuss individual learning needs and enable the development of the experiential learning. This vital section of learning enables staff to reflect upon their current skills and  identify behaviours which may need further development
  • Two days (approx 6 hr each) of experiential learning via Zoom using the skills of trained facilitators and actors - topics covered may include Breaking Bad news, Dealing with Anger/Conflict/Distress, Team dynamics, DNACPR discussions, Advance Care Planning Conversations etc

Previous course participants have given a rating of 4.8/5 for overall experience of the course

95% participants stated that they now felt they had increased confidence along with better technique  in handling conversations with patients

100% participants stated that they would recommend this course to others

PLEASE NOTE: we no longer take bookings over the telephone. Please pay at checkout, or via online banking/PayPal. Thank you.

I was appointed a consultant Urologist at Frimley Park in 1994 and retired from clinical work in 2016 when I took on the role of Freedom to Speak Up Guardian for Frimley Health and have just retired from that position. I was chair of our End of Life Steering Group from 2009 and have been a Clinical Director of Surgery. I have had a long-standing interest in communication skills and was trained as a Wilkinson and then ACST facilitator and have delivered courses for the last 12 years. I have developed the Enhanced model for our Trust and deliver these on a regular basis to multidisciplinary groups

Clinical Programme Lead: The Centre for Sustainable Healthcare, Oxford
I am a highly experienced medical professional bringing a holistic approach to all projects in which I am involved whether working on quality improvement, strategy, management solutions, ethical questions or clinical care.
I act as a catalyst and agent of change when engaging and mentoring groups of healthcare professionals who wish to enhance their skills in quality improvement and communication.
I have a breadth of experience that has given me particular strengths in facilitating interdisciplinary working. I believe that it is at the interfaces between disciplines that creative solutions emerge.
